Education for professional nursing is based on the view that nursing is the backbone of the health services and plays a vital role in the promotion of health and quality of life. Nursing input in health care delivery is important to achieve health for all. Therefore, there is the need to undertake a variety of initiatives to ensure an adequate supply of appropriately prepared and qualified nurses as the demand for nursing services continues to grow. The Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree program at the Prince Sultan Military College of Health Sciences (PSMCHS) is designed to prepare competent graduates to function as professional nurses to meet the special care needs of individuals or groups in various health care settings and in the community. As Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has an increase demand for medical services in both governmental and private sectors. The curriculum was developed based on the philosophy that health is a dynamic process on the illness-wellness continuum, which is influenced by internal and external environmental factors that include all conditions and circumstances that surrounds and influence individuals, families and communities.
Students Learning Journey In Nursing Program:
joined nursing department in their second academic year. Nursing subjects are two part theory and clinical they are co-request.
Theoretical part take place in 7 classroom accommodates about 40 students.
While clinical part take place first at nursing skills labs; basic skills lab, advanced skills lab (high fidelity manikins ), an Audio Visual lab and simulation lab before facing hospital training to ensure patients safety and in force self-confidence of the students..
Then field experience activities are undertaken in the Second, Third and Fourth levels of the program. This course is designed to provide the students with the opportunity to explore and study an area of clinical nursing practice, nursing administration and leadership, under the guidance of the clinical instructor in ratio 1:5 in the wards and 1:2 in the units. Time allocation and scheduling arrangement 1 day per week × 8 hours x 16 weeks for whole semester = 128 hours for each level.
- The purpose of the graduation project is to provide students with an opportunity to engage in an activity that will allow them to demonstrate their ability to apply the knowledge and skills they have gained throughout their years in the educational system.
- A graduation project is presented by each student. This is done to enrich their knowledge and application in research and to in force the importance of evidence based practice in nursing.
- Viva exam is conducted or participation in college research day at the end of course.
