Education for professional nursing is based on the view that nursing is the backbone of the health services and plays a vital role in the promotion of health and quality of life. Nursing input in health care delivery is important to achieve health for all. Nursing influences and is influenced by social and cultural forces and the values of the society in which it is practiced.
Therefore, there is the need to undertake a variety of initiatives to ensure an adequate supply of appropriately prepared and qualified nurses as the demand for nursing services continues to grow. Different programs of Nursing at the Prince Sultan Military College of Health Sciences (PSMCHS) is designed to prepare graduates to function as professional nurses to meet the special care needs of individuals or groups in various health care settings and in the community.
The programs has been assessed and approved by the Ministry of Higher Education. The courses taught and degrees offered by these programs are all equivalent to the Nursing degrees and diploma accorded by the universities, colleges and junior colleges of Nursing in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
The primary purpose of all these programs is to provide Medical Services Division (MSD) hospitals with qualified Saudi nurses to meet the demand for a steady supply of well-trained nurses in the MSD hospitals and Kingdom wide. While the ultimate goal of these programs is to solve the drastic shortage of nurses in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. These programs have been developed based upon the tradition, culture and religious background of Saudi Arabia.
Nursing offers the following programs:
The Bachelor of Science in Nursing Program at Prince Sultan Military College of the Health Sciences (PSMCHS) is offered to the high school graduates. The duration of the program is five years including the internship.
The Nursing Bridging Program at Prince Sultan Military College of the Health Sciences (PSMCHS) is offered to Diploma graduates that promote higher degree in nursing in order to improve and maintain the quality of health services in the Military Hospitals. The duration of the program is three years including the internship.
The Diploma in Nursing Program at the Military Hospitals of the Medical Services Divisions is offered to the high school graduates. The duration of the program is three years and a half including the internship.
